Giving birth to your baby may be one of the most amazing, challenging and memorable experiences of your life. Following pregnancy and childbirth it is not unusual to feel a mixture of emotions such as pure joy and happiness alongside tiredness and exhaustion. Women now generally tend to spend less time in hospital following birth, and there appears to be more pressure on women to get back to normal quickly.
Through my work as a community midwife caring for women and families at home with their babies, I became aware of the importance of postnatal relaxation. During the early weeks with your new baby it is particularly important to sleep and relax as much as possible. Allowing time for yourself to relax will give your body and mind a chance to recover and rejuvenate, leaving you feeling more energized and better equipped to care for, enjoy and deal with the demands of a new baby.
