Care after caesarean
Following your caesarean birth the health professional caring for you will perform regular observations to ensure your heart rate; blood pressure, breathing and temperature are stable. The health professional may also check your wound, vaginal blood loss and monitor your urine output. The drip in your hand or arm will normally stay in place for a few hours after surgery until you are eating and drinking. As soon as you start to feel any discomfort ask the health professional caring for you for pain relief. Getting out of bed and gently mobilising is encouraged sometimes within hours of having the surgery to prevent DVT (deep vein thrombosis). The minimum length of stay in hospital is 48 hours, normal stay is3-4 days.
